This week we have been exploring poster designs for our exhibition, based on our concept. Previously I produced poster sketch designs and I’m now looking to experiment with some materials.

After exploring the idea of using physical material as a new way of creating graphics over the last few weeks, I wished to carry on this process.

Due to our poster being primarily typographic and focusing around the idea of using ‘text as image’ rather than ‘text and image’ I feel as though I can have some fun with this and create letters out of food to create an intersting photographic poster. Here are two materials I experimented with.

I found cereal that was going to be thrown away so I explored what type I could produce with these. I feel as though this wasn’t that successful as the legibility needed for a poster is lacking. It also doesn’t really create a visual meaning or link with the plot of my folktale.

I think the results of using the ketchup on the plate were very successful. The uneven letters create an eerie uncomfortable presence which reflects my genre as it hints at the fact of blood. I want to further develop this and see what other food I can use to generate my lettering such as sweets.
